The Friday Refrain: What's New In Music

December. Phew. While the social life might be bursting at the seams, albums take a back seat as people count up their favorites…

New Music

We have bigger day for rap: Gucci Mane returns with Evil Genius, and Ice Cube releases Everythangs Corrupt. We have a few more holiday singles this weekend, of note for me are Walter Martin with Silent Night and The Staves’ Home Alone, Too. (going to have to adjust my holiday song stats now) Electronic dance XXL releases Puff O’Gigio. In the popular country world, Brett Young has Ticket To L.A. and last but not least, John Mellencamp releases Other People’s Stuff today.

Should I Bother?

  • Ice Cube: Well this album is very straight forward in its opinions, to say the least.

  • Gucci Mane: For fans of trap, you’ll be happy to have another album for your stocking

  • John Mellencamp: where Mellencamp puts his spin on covers. If you’re reaction to hearing Mellencamp mentioned is not one of snark, then you would probably put this one on to judge for yourself

  • XXL: It’s nice to write to, honestly.

  • Brett Young: Seems to lean more towards the love song/love lost side of pop country than the drinking in the back of the truck side.

I’ve heard tell that there might be a new Pint Notes posted soon. And maybe Josh will even post my holiday update. If not, I will have my holiday blog post up by the end of the weekend with some great recommendations for everyone. Until then, Happy listening!
